October 3-
Kingston had an appointment on Friday (Sept 30) and we didn't get good news. His bones weren't healing straight. They had fallen back out of alignment about 35 degrees.
We could try again to reset it in office or have surgery to place a pin. We opted for surgery since the reset didn't work before.
We checked in at 9 am Monday morning at the hospital, from there we talked to the nurse (who took vitals), anesthesiologist (who gave him his breathing mask), assistant (who talked transformers with him and took specific orders from Kingston for a blue and red cast like Optimus Prime), surgeon (who explained that he would put 1 pin in his radius and the ulna would instinctively follow and also he would have another full arm cast to keep him immobilized), and child life specialist (who helped him decorate and strawberry scent his mask before surgery). Before we knew it they were wheeling him away "super fast so his hair would blow in the wind"!.
Joan, Jonathan, and I headed out to the waiting room and as we were gathering our things they came out to tell us he was already under and giggled as he fell asleep. We went to grab lunch but barely sat down when we got a page that they were done. The surgeon came in and said everything went great and he would see us in 2 weeks.
Right after that, they came to get us to be with Kingston as he was waking up from the anesthesia. That was a little hard because he woke up crying and just couldn't get settled. He was in more pain then he had been in this whole time (probably because it was already starting to heal and they had to re-break it). He got some pain meds on board and then we were on our way home. Actually, Jonathan and Kingston were on their way home and I had to finish up at work for a few hours.
He was pretty down for the rest of the afternoon but Grandpa Dan and Amy came to visit and brought lots of things to cheer him up. Movies, candy, and Kingston's most favorite...the fishing game. That really perked him up!
We got to stay home with him the next day and just hang out and play the fishing game. He finally got his appetite back and ate and ate and ate. The rest of the week he got to go back to Suzanne's to recover and relax.
And, even better was the gift basket on the door that week. It totally made his day! But not his sister's! Although, he was kind enough to share his applesauce with her (or rather give them to her because he doesn't like them!)
***2 week update***
Everything is healing just perfect!! He goes back in 3 more weeks to get the cast off and the pin out!
