Aug 14-
Since school hadn't started yet, it worked out for the kids and I to drive there with dad and Holly and then we flew home with Uncle Joel. I figured every kid needed to drive across a few states with their grandparent (it's kinda a right of passage). Surprisingly, the drive went smoothly and quickly. Dad had done the drive enough times that he knew all the good rest stops.
Took us just over a day to get there and it was so nice to be surrounded by family. We got to see the farm house one last time and go up the sketchy stairs. There were lots of pictures and mementos displayed from her 100+ years here.
The day of the service was really hard but also really peaceful. Lots of wonderful memories were shared and we were surrounded by so much family. The kids got to meet my cousins and their kids and it really was more of a celebration of her life. We all wore a piece of her jewelry and some rose bud corsages that she had made.
We went back to Barb's and went through a few boxes of what was in the hutches in the living room at grandma's house. Everyone found a few treasures to remember her by and we shared lots of laughs.
Next day, we boarded the plane and headed home!We had one more night in the hotel and luckily Joel is a fun uncle and went swimming with the kids. I was out because the water was way too cold!
Poem Kingston wrote in memory of great grandma.
