Middle School Football

 August 23-

Kingston started football for Eagle Middle School on August 12.  It was a grueling first week where we learned two days too late that his cleats were too small and that there is a reason athletes train in the off season!  Poor kid couldn't even walk right for at least a week. Had blisters and a lot of heel pain.  We sized up in cleats, got fancy insoles, and ice his feet nightly. But, we are now 2 weeks in and things are looking much better. The first week was pretty rough with 80+ kids going out for football.  I think about 35 are on his 7th grade JV team and the others are 8th grade varsity boys.

Kingston came in ready to be a quarterback after leading his flag team to a championship ring the prior season, but as luck would have it, the coach's son also played QB and the coach himself was a pro QB so Kingston was 4th string QB which wouldn't have given him much playing time.  But leave it to my go getter kid and he talked to the coach about getting more play time in another position, so we tried line backer.  Again he was third string, but he worked his butt off and gave it his all and as of right now, he has worked himself into a starting line backer.  He was so excited and his coach even called him out in front of all the players for being loud and communicative on the field, given his all when tackling, and just working hard.  So, we have a game next week where I will see him tackle and be tackled for the first time ever....I'm not really looking forward to that, but I am excited to see him get out there! Go #44
