I took the day off to enjoy my little guy before he grows up and it started off so good! Kingston and I watched Curious George while eating our breakfast and then we had a second breakfast when Kingston wanted a bowl of cereal. After that we got ready for our day, packed a sandwich and some snacks, and headed down to daddy's work to have lunch with him. Jonathan was so excited to see Kingston!
We had lunch in daddy's office and Kingston got to sit in his own chair. We had taken his sweatshirt off and set it behind him, but it must have been bugging him because he stood up and turned around to pull it out. As he was turning back around, the chair slipped or he slipped (I'm still not quite sure what happened) and he went down. His sweet little face hit the edge of the desk (the sound of this still resonates in my ears) and the tears came instantly. It took a while to calm him down because he was hyperventilating. He was bleeding from his mouth but not a whole lot. When we were finally able to assess the damage, we were horrified. At first we thought he broke his tooth off, but there was so much swelling that we weren't sure exactly what happened.
We did what any first time parent would do and we took off to the Urgent Care. Kingston fell asleep in the car and stayed asleep for most of the wait. He did really good getting his temperature and oxygen saturation, but he didn't really like the crinkly paper on the exam table. When the doctor came in, we laid him back and he was able to get a good look inside. He said that the tooth was still intact, it just got pushed back up into the gums. There wasn't much that they could do so he referred us to a pediatric dentist.
We called the dentist and made and appointment and then just rested on the couch. When he fell asleep we were finally able to get a good look inside his mouth. Even his lips were swollen and cut.Luckily, Emily knew a pediatric dentist and she called Dr. Streeby and sent him our pictures. He told us that everything looked good and not to worry, just come in to his office in a couple days, but Kingston would be fine.
March 20 was our dentist appointment and Kingston loved the waiting room. There was a movie, a giant spaceship, video games, and fun drawings all over the wall. We got right back and Dr. Streeby looked at his mouth. He thought it looked like the tooth had gone back in at a good angle and wasn't going to damage his permanent tooth or root, but just to make sure he wanted an x-ray. That was a little harder than I thought. He screamed through the whole thing, but we got the picture and it looked good. We even got 2 new toothbrushes out of the visit. We just have to follow up in a few months. There is no way to tell if the baby tooth got damaged, but Dr. Streeby thought it would be okay and it should just push itself back down over time.
Besides the initial fall, Kingston hasn't been bothered by the new tooth arrangement. He is just as cute as ever.
He did have a small bruise line across his cheek for about a week where he hit the desk.
