Eagle Tree

March 7-
We've always talked about going to the Eagle Tree in Wendell. It's a little less than 2 hours away, but we never seemed to go.  Every McCall trip the boys have there eyes peeled for bald eagles and we see a fair amount, but we've been intrigued with the Eagle Tree since we heard about it.  In the winter, bunches of bald eagles come to this tree an roost for the night.  Scientists don't know why, but it is a sight to see.
So, we finally made it happen.  Just decided to drive out, even though we were on the tail end of things.  Once it warms up they take off and don't come back till late fall or winter.  We were NOT disappointed!! I think Jonathan and I enjoyed it more than the kids and it was cold, breezy, and rainy. We got there and saw a handful of eagles in the trees but as we sat there for a couple hours, we watched the tree fill up.  It was so surreal to watch them come from out of nowhere and occupy their place in the branches. Sometimes they would arrive in pairs and sometimes they would knock another eagle off their branch. It was so majestic to watch it all.  They are beautiful birds!
