Yellowstone 2009

June 18-21 we spent in Island Park at the Truxal cabin. Jonathan and I met Joan and Cam there on Wednesday night. Friday morning we took all the dogs for a walk, but it rained off and on all day so that kept us inside. The boys enjoyed playing in the river and I think Tucker might have caught some minnows because he kept ducking his head under the water. Zac and Emily joined us that evening.
Friday, we all loaded up in the RV and made our way to Yellowstone. We did the upper loop and saw a bunch of animals. My favorite was the black bear with two cubs.
We spent HOURS glued to our binoculars watching a bear pop his head up across the river.
This picture was taken through the monoculars (my binoculars only worked out of the left eye) and you can see the bear's brown head in the middle.
Lots of animal watching. And a few more hours of wolf watching. There were 4 (or 5) in the pack that we were watching.

We had pulled pork sandwiches in the park again thanks to the crockpot. The RV makes it so comfortable with a kitchen, bathroom, and sofa.

Saturday, Jonathan went fishing and caught another "whopper."
Cam and Zac took Rockee, Remmy, and Rio out on the river.
And I took the boys for a long walk. They loved running through the forest without their leashes and splashing in the puddles. Chief was hunting for squirrels, Tucker was eating all the mountain grass, and Barney just tagged along with me on the trails.

But then, it started raining so we decided to do another day in the park, but this time we did the lower loop so that I could see all the geysers. I thought this was much for fun than the previous day!! It was overcast at the park, so when we went to my favorite hot springs, Grand Prismatic, we didn't get as pretty pictures as last time. I guess we'll just have to try again next year.

For some reason we were all really giggly on this trip. We watched Zac try and make iced tea for over 30 minutes and Jonathan finally got Emily to open this trick candy that we had brought.

And, not to worry, we stopped and watched the wolves again until it was dark!
We got in late that night and played Pitch until after midnight. About that time Joan checked her phone and we found out that Monica's water broke and they were headed to the hospital (more on that on the next post).
Sunday morning we woke up, packed, and cleaned up so that we could get back to Boise and see Monica and our new nephew!!!
Here is our little (actually not so little) family!
